No. 6 Cosmetic essay by Dr. Lee Jin soo- The gap between the rich and the poor
I specialize in double jaw surgery and
facial contouring surgery, which deals with the skeleton inside the face.
I change the shape of the face by trimming
the underlying bone in the face.
To make the result to be exposed to the
outside, the cartilage covering the bone must reflect the changes in the face
bone. Therefore, the better the degree of reflection of the cartilage, the
better results of facial bone surgery are. Here, the cartilage is the tissue on
the bone, and the skin, the subcutaneous fat, the muscles so on are the main
components. We usually see skin when we look outside, so from now on; I will
the cartilage as "skin".
There are two conditions for skin that
reflect the results of face bone surgery.
The first is to be thin. It's actually a
thin layer of the skin, and if it's thick enough, it's less likely to be
reflected on the outside when bone surgery is done. If you compare it to a
piece, it's a delicate and cool sculpture. You cover a thick winter blanket
over it. Basically, the absence of facial flesh is a good target for bone
surgery.
Second, it has to be elastic. Bone surgery
is a surgery that reduces the volume of facial bones. If your skin is not
elastic, you can't handle this reduced volume and you can't keep up with it. In
other words, suppose when you wrap things or food in plastic wrap and you can't
pull well, so you get wrinkles. If you pull it tight and wrap it well, you can
see things and food much better inside. It's usually a case where your skin is
very elastic. It's better to have a slightly stiff skin than a soft one. The
skin looks clean without blemishes and looks good at first glance but it is
prone to stretch out after bone surgery. This is why older skin becomes less
suitable for bone surgery because older skin becomes less elastic. The
elasticity of the natural skin which is combined with changes in age and care
is important.
In conclusion, a thin skin and a good
elasticity are good for bone surgery. But if you think about it, it's more
likely to have a good pre-op skin condition than post-op condition otherwise.
Originally, pretty cases mean that surgery works better, but unfortunately,
there is a gap between rich and poor cases in plastic surgery.
Fortunately, various procedures are being
developed to make skin thinner and more elastic to improve this unfortunate
situation (The gap between the rich and the poor) and produce some results. It
is one of the most active research and new attempts at this point these days. I
will continue to make efforts to improve this gap.
