Fixation plate and stitch removal after two jaw surgery

It's obvious that Faceline is known for performing two jaw surgeries! Large numbers of patients always ask us the common question.

"When can I take out the fixation plates? Is it safe to leave them after taking out the stitches?

Let's talk about the fixation plates, first. The plates are made out of titanium as they fix the moved bones after two jaw surgery. Titanium can be also used to make for artificial bones, so it's safe if not removed. But, if you worry about them showing in the x-ray, you may consider about getting them removed.

When is the best time to remove them?
It's usually recommended after 6 months~1 year the surgery. After 1 year isn't recommended as the surrounding soft tissue is difficult to move after they're settled.

No more swelling?

There will be a bit swelling, but it won't be severe as two jaw surgery. It usually takes about 1 week.

Secondly

When do I remove stitches? Is it necessary? A double jaw surgery is done through incision inside of the mouth. It usually takes about two weeks to make sure that the incisions are healed enough. After that, the incision is actually cured well, so even without the stitches; it is not meaningful in the recovery process at this time

Because the sutures of the mouth are a melting thread, you don't have to remove them and without removing them, they melt away after a while or break off on their own, so you don't have to remove them on purpose.

It's not the cause of the pain, it's the part of the recovery process, but it's the part where you are concerned.
Have you solved your curiosity about removing the pin and stitches?

It's your first time doing this and that, so I'm sure you have a lot of things to care about. Don't forget that the pins and stitches are all well-connected, and that the most important thing is to follow the post-op care guidelines that the hospital will give you, so please be sure to follow the precautions.
