Face contouring surgery is a surgery that changes the facial shape by trimming the facial bones. It is developed first among all the face contouring surgeries and it is the operation which is performed the most in the lower jaw (mandible in anatomical term).
It is a surgery to trim angled large and wide jaw and turn it into a slim and narrow jaw.
When I trimmed the jaw, I first performed surgery on the mandibular angle area. The angled area from the lower jaw to under the ears is called mandibular angle in anatomical term, and the surgery to trim this is often referred to as 'square jaw surgery' and is a representative of face contouring surgeries.
On the jaw, there is the nerve located in the tip of the chin, which is responsible for sense of the tip of the chin and the lower lip. The location where that nerve comes out is a little bit forward than the middle of the jaw line approximately. So, when the operation is performed on the mandibular angle, the scope of the operation mainly consists of the back of this nerve. When the mandibular surgery is performed, the shape of the part from the middle of the jaw line to the back angle changes and the shape of the chin tip does not change. Since it is not easy to trim the jawbone in the lower part of the chin nerve, the surgery to trim the anterior part from the middle part of the chin line develops later than the operation of each part. It has been only a few years ago that starting to think of trimming the whole jaw line like now.
The shape of the tip of the chin is also important esthetically. It should have a suitable length and a slender shape. Especially when the tip of the chin is angled and wide, it becomes a problem esthetically. Angled and wide jaw is called 'Majinga Z Chin' because the jaw is similar to the shape of the jaw of the robot in 'Majinga Z'.
At first, the operation to trim the entire jaw line including the jaw was called a "spin shaving". Like cutting the mandibular angle, from the jaw below the nerve of the tip of the jaw to the tip of jaw were trimmed. 'Spin shaving' surgery has a great significance in that it extended the scope of surgery to the entire jaw line.
In facial bone surgeries, the surgery making a shape by moving the jawbone has more variation and more consistent results rather than simply cutting the bone and making a shape. This is because there are few areas where the skin reacts to missing bones. So, 'T-osteotomy' is one of the most commonly performed facial contour surgeries that incorporate the concept of moving bones into the concept of 'spin shaving'. The 'Majinga Z Chin' is made into a slender jaw tip with 'spin shaving' or 'T osteotomy'. It is called 'V-line' because the jaw that made the 'Majinga Z-chin' slim by trimming well. Mazinger Z is a Japanese cartoon. The Korean version of this robot is called 'Taekwon V'. Isn’t it fun to have the V letter from the V-line in the robot’s name?
