Does facial asymmetry can be perfectly symmetrical by the surgery?
Everyone
has some asymmetry. But the reason why we can't recognize is that it's not
serious enough with naked eyes. If you see any of the asymmetries as distorted,
or if you are suffering from facial asymmetry, especially if it is accompanied
by joint problems, you should improve them through the surgery.
Facial
asymmetry refers to one that is not balanced between the left and the right or
these of the upper, middle and lower sides are not parallel to each other,
based on the center line of the face. To put it in concrete figures, it is
usually noticeable when it is distorted by more than 3mm to either side of the
left or right, and this is diagnosed as a facial asymmetry.
There
are two major operations that improve the facial asymmetry; double jaw surgery
and facial contouring surgery. If the left and right sides of the face line do not
fit (mainly due to size problems), asymmetry can be improved by facial
contouring surgery.
In
some cases of facial asymmetry, the tip of the chin turned to the same side as
the lips tilted, which is the whole upper and lower jaws twisted. This case should
be improved with a double jaw surgery that changes the position of the upper
and lower jaws.
When
asymmetry is noticeable, it is often impossible to correct asymmetry perfectly
through surgery, whether it is facial contouring surgery or double jaw surgery.
The reason for this is that, the axis of the eyes and nose are not straight in
most cases as well as the facial shape. In practice, when correcting asymmetry
by changing the position or adjusting the size of the jaw, the asymmetrical eye
height and the axis of the nose can also be considered for better results.
Therefore, the goal is not to completely eliminate asymmetry but to change it
to the extent that asymmetry is not being seen much in general.
Lee
Jin-soo, director of Faceline plastic surgery clinic, said, “When there is a
facial asymmetry, precise diagnosis must be preceded to determine if it is
necessary to correct it through surgery. The most important thing is to choose
the right surgery based on accurate diagnosis with surgeon who has experience
of surgery and rich in know-how.”
