We need to choose a right method related to the cause of the protrusion~!

Treatment for effective protrusion improvement depends on whether the cause is teeth, gums, or multiple symptoms are complex, so the correct diagnosis process should be preceded.

The improvement method of protrusion can be largely divided into orthodontics, protrusion surgery, and a double jaw surgery.

First of all, orthodontics are used when gums are normal but when the teeth are protruded forward which is usually an effective method.

But the gums itself, including the teeth, are protruded; the gums themselves need to be put backward by a protrusion surgery. It's called ASO-Anterior Segmental Osteotomy, and it's usually done by pulling out the 1st teeth which is located right next to fangs and then it's put back the gums with the front teeth and fangs. It uses appropriate space depending on the patient’s protrusion and occlusion. The advantage of protrusion surgery is that it can put back a lot amount which can be effective for severe condition moreover; the jaw end can naturally be corrected at the same time. But it may not be suitable when the fangs are already pulled out, and if the protrusion symptoms are minor, it may leave a lot space on your gums.

If the protrusion surgery cannot be performed due to the space, the double jaw surgery can be applied when there's facial asymmetry, long face, jutting chin and irregular joint are accompanied.

Since ASO surgery needs to take into account the conditions of the teeth, facial bones and the gums, the collaboration between the orthodontist and the plastic surgeon that performs the surgery is very important.
