Let Me In – Does changing your face change your life?

When a person 's face changes with plastic surgery, it can change his or her life. When looking at an object, we feel something from the visual image of the object. We call this an impression. We obviously also get an impression when looking at people. Changing your face with plastic surgery will leave a different impression on everyone you encounter. Different impressions are reacted to differently and the different reactions collectively can change a person's life. You can easily envision a positively changed impression will change a person's life in a good way.

I appeared on the show ‘Let Me In’ and performed a lot of plastic surgery on the participants. I’ve actually appeared in various other makeover programs but I will take this show as an example because it has a high profile.

‘Let Me In’ is a program that selects people who’ve undergone difficulties due to their unattractive appearance and improves their appearance with plastic surgery. If you've ever watched this program before, you'll find the improvement in their appearance amazing. I expected these people’s lives to change substantially as well from the substantial change in their appearance.

‘Let Me In’ aired until season 5. The broadcast was produced for over 5 years since the first season began. According to the production team, when seeing the participants who appeared on the show many years later, some of their lives improved significantly, but some led similar lives as before surgery. Changing their face didn't necessarily change their lives positively.

There is a story of a lottery winner that became a hot topic in the news recently. The winner of Powerball, an American lottery, was set to receive a whopping 854.8 billion won. You would obviously think that someone winning such a large amount of money at once would continue to live well, but there happens to be a lot of people who earn such fortune that end up suffering from fraud, divorce, drug addiction, or even end up murdered. Such problems arose from splurging randomly with little preparation as to how that large amount of money would be spent. Various media in the United States presented rules of conduct for winning a large sum of money including thorough planning and preparation for using the prize money before receiving it.

The same applies for plastic surgery. You have to be ready to lead a life befitting your changed face to live well. You shouldn't expect life to change just from your face changing. Your life can only change when you become a changed person suitably for your changed face. Plastic surgery can definitely be a turning point in life. But it would be difficult to call it more than a turning point. After this turning point, your life can change only when you yourself make the effort to change it.

Einstein's famous words come to mind.
"Don't dream of a different tomorrow while living today like you did yesterday.”
